Brief History of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Victor Babeș University, Timișoara

Victor Babeș Faculty of Pharmacy was established in Timişoara in 1997. The establishment of this faculty responds to two main needs of this city. The first goal is to complete the tradition of teaching and training specialists at “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The second goal was to eliminate the gap in the number of specialists in this part of the city.

The Victor Babes faculty of Pharmacy in Timişoara has always pursued one goal since its foundation. That goal is the training of pharmacists who, with their ability and knowledge, play an important and essential role in preventing iatrogenic pathology, optimizing healthcare, and ensuring the patients’ therapeutic education.

Course Description:

Usually, the educational topics for studying pharmacy are the same according to the international education standard. In general, these studies are divided into two general categories: Fundamental studies and Special studies.

Fundamental studies: Basic studies are done in the first two years, and in this course, you will mainly focus on the basic concepts of medicine, pharmaceutical techniques, pharmaceutical laws, and specialized topics in chemistry. Learning these things will help you become an expert in your field of work.
Special studies: In the next three years, the educational focus is on subjects learning the characteristics and properties of biomedical profiles. In addition, in this course, you will also master biomedical topics and specialized pharmaceutical topics. Learning these lessons is essential to working as a pharmacist.

Training Overview:

In addition to theoretical courses, you must also master specialized practical topics. Practical training is usually done in community and hospital pharmacies in Romania. The education of students in the field of pharmacy is based on learning the necessary specialties for a pharmacist and includes the pharmaceutical industry, food, and drug analysis and control laboratories, and clinical “bedside” pharmacy.

Furthermore, since 2000, the European Credit Transfer System has been used in this University.
