Brief History of the Faculty of Medicine at Victor Babeș University, Timișoara

The Victor Babeș University of Medicine and Pharmacy was established in 1944 by order of the Romanian King, His Majesty King Michael I, and since then more than 15,000 doctors have graduated from this university, 3,000 of whom were international students. However, the Faculty of Medicine opened on 15th July 1945 with only two years of study.

Nowadays, the reputation of Victor babeș University is due to its strong teaching staff and excellent results in training skilled specialists and physicians.

The main goal of the medical school is to train specialized and professional doctors who can serve the medical community. Students must have complete mastery of general medical knowledge, considered one of the most challenging topics. Because in this course, all clinical aspects are combined with fundamental research.

Course Description:

Your training in the general medicine course is divided into two parts: Preclinical and Clinical training, where you learn different subjects in each course.

Preclinical courses include the study of fundamental subjects: anatomy, histology, biology, biochemistry, and biophysics. The first three years of your study are dedicated to preclinical courses.
The clinical course also includes specialized surgical training and preventive medicine topics. This part of your education is practical and prepares you for the job market.

In these courses, you will even learn general topics such as the history of medicine, social sciences, sports, foreign languages, and Romanian for international students.

You must practice medicine alongside your studies at Victor Babeș University. Clinical training at this university started in four hospitals, and today, all the medical students are being trained in more than 25 hospitals in different buildings in Romania.
