Brief History of the Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science at Politehnica University of Bucharest

The history of the Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science dates back to 1867, when Emanuel Bacaloglu, a professor at the previous School of Bridges, Roads, and Mines, began offering Chemistry courses. The Polizu buildings, which were constructed early in 1886, house the faculty.

In 1938, the legislation establishing the engineering profession and the Board of Engineers came into effect. In this situation, the Polytechnic School has established a Faculty of Industrial Chemistry. As new specialties, labs, and research centers were established to satisfy the demand for technical and scientific advancement, the faculty organically changed as well.

Engineers are now educated by the faculty for four years in a variety of chemical industry specialties. In addition to the courses required for the bachelor’s degree, there are postgraduate academic institutions, advanced studies for engineers, etc. The National Conference on Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is directed by the faculty every two years, and they actively participate in domestic and international scientific publications.
